Donald O. Trenholm
1920-2012
Donald O. Trenholm, age 92, of Port Elgin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. He was a son of the late Alton and Delilah (Larsen) Trenholm.
Don was veteran of WWII, serving with the Canadian Army in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was a member of the Cape Tormentine Legion. Don organized the first AA group in Port Elgin around 1968. Don worked as a fisherman for many years and was also a carpenter and a licensed plumber, always available to help day or night. He served as Fire Chief for the Village of Port Elgin, and worked as a driver on the Port Elgin Ambulance. Don served on Village Council as councilor in Port Elgin, and was a member and volunteer on the PEDVAC board.
Don will be sadly missed by his wife Doris (Mullins); one son, Peter (Wanda) of Moncton; daughters, Donna (Dave) Hipditch of Kitchener-Waterloo, ON, and Brenda Jones (Ray Hipditch) of Port Elgin; grandchildren, Tina, Kelly, Lance, Ashley, Jeremy, Sabrina, and Ray Jr.; great grandchildren, Bailey,Keegan, Bradley, and Kyle; sister, Helen Burke; brothers, Robert (Linda), and Florin (Lillian); sister in law, Florence; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ralph.
Cremation has taken place under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 3 W. Main Street, Port Elgin (538-2241), from where visitation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 6-8 p.m. Cape Tormentine Legion Branch # 81 will hold a service at 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at 2 p.m. from the funeral home. Wayne Jarvis, DLM, and Bill Drysdale, DLM, will officiate.
Burial will take place at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Don may do so to the SPCA or other animal shelter.
