Norma (nee MacLeod) Cameron died at the age of 97 in Ottawa on Feb. 9, 2011.
Born March 20, 1913, in Sydney Mines, C.B., she was predeceased by her mother, Catherine (Cass) MacLeod (nee Bates), father, Neil MacLeod, former electrical superintendent of the Dominion Steel and Coal Corp., brother, Joe, sisters, Deane MacMullin, Grace Vacheress, Flo Gilday and Martha (died at six months), all of Glace Bay.
Norma Cameron married Russell Cameron, the son of Catherine Cameron (nee Burchell) and Dan Cameron, lumber merchant, former mayor of Glace Bay and former Conservative MLA.
She is survived by her three children, Dan, Regina (Barbara), Grace Labbe (Paul), Ottawa, Nancy Morton (Jack), Missoula, Mont., U.S.A.; as well as grandchildren, Ian, Mary, Donna, Georgia and Matthew Cameron, Paule Nanos, Marc, Phillip, David and Robert Labbe, Neil, Ryan, Catherine (Cass) and Paul Morton; as well as 16 great-grandchildren.
Educated at Glace Bay and at Mount St. Bernard’s College in Antigonish, N.S., she spent many years raising her family in Glace Bay. She then commenced on a second career serving as an executive secretary in Montreal and Ottawa.
In retirement and active to the end of her life she was much loved by her immediate and extended family for her wisdom, insight, strong faith and humour. She resided in Ottawa and passed many happy summers at the cottage of Nancy and Jack Morton in Montana.
The interment of her cremated remains will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. On that same day at 5 p.m. a reception will take place for relatives and friends of the family at the home of Shawn MacMullin at 7 Shawn Ave., Glace Bay.
