Boyd Littlewood
LITTLEWOOD, Boyd Edwin - 92, of Port Royal, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in his home; the same home in which he was born, surrounded by his loving family. He was a son of the late John and Rose (Ring) Littlewood. After school he became a fisherman for a few years and at the age of 20 joined the Canadian Navy. During the Second World War he served on various ships on convoy duty in the North Atlantic and on the Murmansk Run. After leaving the Navy he took a carpentry course and worked in the Kentville area for several years. Upon moving back to his home community, Boyd became employed as a carpenter at CFB Cornwallis and worked there for thirty years. For the last ten of those years he managed the Boat Shed at the Annapolis Causeway, where sea cadets trained. Boyd never lost his love for the sea. In his spare time he fished lobster and built and tended his own fishing weir. He enjoyed woodworking and upon retirement spent many happy hours in his shop crafting whirligigs and wind spinners. His shop was also a gathering spot where friends and relatives visited on a regular basis. Boyd took great pride in his garden and was happy to give away produce. He made the best apple cider and rarely missed his nightly game of cribbage. He was a member of the Order of Good Cheer. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Phyllis (Riordan); daughters, Ellen Littlewood, Port Royal; Constance “Connie” (Orest) Kryschuk, Winnipeg, Man.; Anne (Murray Carruthers), Digby; son, John (Josette) Littlewood, Comeauville; and grandchildren, Jennifer and David Kryschuk, Winnipeg; and Jenna Littlewood, Toronto. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by brother, Irvine; and sisters, Helen and Maude. The funeral service was held on Friday August 3, with Rev. Elizabeth Waugh officiating. Interment was in the Stoney Beach Cemetery. Donations in memory of Boyd can be made to the Port Royal United Baptist Church or the Stoney Beach Cemetery. He was in and out of hospital over the years and his family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the many doctors, nurses, other professionals and home care workers for the excellent and compassionate care Boyd received.
