HAMILTON, ALLEN V. - The death of Allen Vincent Hamilton, loving husband of Marion (Merritt) Hamilton of Saint John, NB occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 5th, 2012. Born 1923, in Truro N.S., he was the son of the late Edward and Laura (Connoly) Hamilton. Allen was employed as a Longshoreman and as a Stationary Engineer at Canada Packing. He was a veteran of WWII and served with the Royal Canadian Navy, the Merchant Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard. Allen was a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer for 20 years and also volunteered for Canadian Cancer Society providing transportation of patients to and from treatment. In addition to his wife, Allen is survived by his six sons Allen, Leo, and Richard all of Edmonton, AB, James and Thomas of Saint John and Calvin of Grand Lake; two daughters Sandra Hamilton of Saint John and Marion Hamilton of London, ON. Allen is also survived by one sister Phyllis Brown of Saint John; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). At Allen’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Following cremation, a private family committal will be held at Fernhill Cemetery at a later date. The Hamilton family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of 3C North and the extra mural nurses for their kind care and concern during Allen’s brief illness.
