Ernie Aucoin, 84 of Ling Street, New Waterford, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at his summer home in Cheticamp.
Born in Cheticamp, Ernie was the son of the late Henri and Colombe (Boudreau) Aucoin.
Ernie worked as a bus driver for Allen’s Bus Lines in North Sydney for 36 years. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. Ernie never lost his passion for Cheticamp, nor his ability to entertain and party.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Mary (McPhee) Aucoin; six children, Frances (Clifford) Aucoin, Howie Center, Michelle (Fran) Aucoin, Sherbrooke, N.S., David (Anita), Lingan, Monica Aucoin, Halifax, Douglas (Mabel), South Bar, Gregory (Matina), Halifax; seven grandchildren, Robert, Brian, Jason (Kim), Amanda, Jennifer, Michael (Catherine) Fox, Deborah (Almon) MacDonald; two great-grandchildren, Jack Alexander and Ava Anne and two sisters-in-law, Alice and Mavis.
Ernie was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Charles, Wilfred, Danny, Henry, four sisters, Hattie, Mary Rose Aucoin, Sr. Eveline Aucoin ,Yvonne Maelde and a brother-in-law, Edmund Aucoin.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Alex MacLellan is Friday at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, followed by interment in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
All are invited to St. Leonard’s Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford, for a reception.
As an expression of sympathy for Ernie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice. Family flowers only.
