Marney, Jean Lauretta (Ripley) - It is with deep sadness we share the passing of Jean Lauretta Ripley Marney - 95 of Truro NS. which occurred at Elk Court in Brookfield on August 5, 2012. Jean was the eldest daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Ripley. She was born on May 10, 1917 in Brookdale, NS. She leaves to mourn Marion (Gary) Cameron, Indian Point, Barbara (David) Bartlett, Hilden, Audrey Bolles, Florence, Montana, Kathryn (Paul) Mosher, Hall's Harbour, Claudia (Bob) Burns, Millsville, daughter-in-law Helen Marney, Bible Hill; 20 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Evelyn Smith, Clayton (Hilda), June, Shirley (Owen), Winston (Joan), sisters-in-law Eva, Jessie and Ruth Marney Dow, special brother-in-law Creighton (Florence) Marney. Jean was predeceased by Everett her husband of many years; her sons, Lyman and Brian; two grandchildren; brothers, Raymond, Lawrence, Garfield, Russell and sister Muriel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years, a member of the Eastern Star, where she held several offices. Her pastimes were her many crafts such as quilting, word puzzles and trying new recipes. She was a great cook and her family loved her pretty pickles and freezer pickles. She was a lovely mother, mother-in law and a friend to those who knew her. She loved her trips to Amherst and Parrsboro to visit relatives as well as the Marney get-to-gathers at Hall’s Harbour or Indian Point each year. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Murray and the staff of Elk Court for their kindness and care to Jean while she was a resident there. Also to the staff at the several homes where she spent time after leaving her own home. The family wish to extend an appreciation to the Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro. Visitation will take place Thursday, Aug. 9 at 1:30 pm until time of the funeral service at 2:30 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, with Pastor Ron Ruse officiating.
