Florence Elizabeth Poole

Poole: Florence Elizabeth, aged 84, passed away peacefully an Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro, Nova Scotia with her husband at her side. Born on June 10, 1928 in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Percy and Helen (Harper) Fitzpatrick. She graduated from Windsor Academy, Provincial Normal College in Truro and the United Church Training School in Toronto. She taught grda 1 at Windsor Elementary School from 1947 – 1951. She worked for The United Church in extension work from 1952 – 1954 in The Moncton Suburban Charge. She was an Elder at Brunswick Street United Church and a life member of The United Church Women. Her interests included playing the piano, crafts, baking, gardening, bird watching and she always lit up when young children were around. Family was very important to her and she was a loving and proud wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gordon; son David, Peterborough, Ontario and his children, Katie, Laura and Robert; son Wendell, (Teresa), Toronto, Ontario and their children, Samantha and Jasmine; son Kenneth (Heather), Calgary, Alberta and their children, Carson and Lena; daughter Janice, Truro and her children, Caitlin and Lucas; and a number of nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Marjorie Waddington (Tom) and brothers, Ralph and Lloyd. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Eden Hall at Cedarstone for their loving care of Florence during the past 3 years and Dr. S. Singh for his care over many years following her stroke in February, 1998. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date and will be announced of the day and time.
