It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Brenda passed away at her home with her loving family at her side on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2012, after a short but brave battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Thomas and Theresa (Wadden) Barnstable, and was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay.
Mom was a very thoughtful, caring person who was always there when anyone needed her. She enjoyed baking, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Brenda will be sadly missed by her loving children, sons, Gary Hiscock (Tammy MacDougall) Glace Bay, Michael James ‘M.J.’ Barnstable, Ontario; daughter, Wendy Elaine Hiscock (Alex Detchevery), Glace Bay; four cherished grandchildren, Garrett, Gabrielle, Jeremy and Brooklynn Hiscock. Brenda is also survived by her brother, Junior Barnstable (Sandra MacDonald) of Glace Bay; sisters, Rose (Clarence)Matheson, Port Morien, Barbara (David) Burt, Ontario; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held today (Friday Aug. 10) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery Glace Bay.
Many thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
