Martha Campbell, 101, of New Victoria passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Alder Point, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Martin) Devoe.
Martha was a member of the former St. Joseph Church, New Victoria, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. In her younger years, Martha was employed at the lobster hatchery in Alder Point. She later went on to work in various locations such as Annapolis Valley, Truro and most recently, Harbour View Hospital in Sydney Mines. She was a member of the New Waterford Pensioner’s Club and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15, New Waterford. Martha enjoyed singing, dancing and playing the piano. She also loved knitting and playing darts at the Pensioner’s Club.
Surviving are sons, Lorne, New Victoria, Colin, Ontario; brother, Walter, Sydney Mines; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Martha was predeceased by her husband, John Daniel Campbell, son, John Jr., sisters, Catherine, Ella, Bertha, Ruth, Winnie, brothers, John, George, Chester, Seaward, Raymond, Brooks and Dan.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
