of St. Thomas, in his 72nd year, passed away at St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on August 13th, 2012, with his loving family by his side. (Retired from Toronto Police Service). Beloved husband and best friend of Ivy Marie for 51 years. Loving father of John James and Donna Lee. Proud grandfather of Tarrynn Elizabeth, Janna Marie and James Patrick. Cherished great-grandfather of Jordan James. Also left to mourn are sister, Elizabeth Anne Flynn of St. Thomas, sister Paula Marie Flynn (Rick Hiscott) of St. John’s, NL, niece Stephanie Flynn, Victoria B.C., nephew, Michael Hiscott, St. John’s, NL. Predeceased by his parents John “Jack” (1965) and Kay (Lawlor) Flynn (1998). Survived by best family friends Vic and Carole Lovegrove, their children and grandchild of Newmarket, ON, brother-in-law, Bill (Betty) Snow of Lewisport, NL, sister-in-law, Marilyn Snow of Glenwood, NL, sister-in-law, Louise (Keith) Manuel of Loon Bay, NL. Predeceased by parents-in-law, Reuban (1968) and Edna Frances (Hillier) Snow (1997), predeceased by brother-in-law, Melvin Snow (2002). Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Jim was born in Corner Brook, NL on the 20th of September, 1940 and raised in St. John’s. He was educated at St. Bonaventure’s College, St. John’s, NL, graduating in 1957. After a short period with the Bank of Nova Scotia he joined the RCAF in 1958 and served at bases in Canada and Germany. He then joined the Newfoundland Constabulary and later the Metropolitan (now) Toronto Police service which he served for 31 years rising to the rank of Staff Superintendent. During his career with the MTP he attended Ryerson Polytechnical Institute studying Psychology and Behavioural Sciences. In 1978 he was honoured by Ryerson with the George Korey Proficiency Medal Award. Jim graduated the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 1983. In 1991 he attended the National Defense College in Kingston, Ontario. During his year at NDC Jim travelled extensively as part of his training and visited 103 global destinations. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight Chapter #1467 Fr Ernie Deslippe, St. Thomas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Clinic, Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario of St. Thomas - Elgin General Hospital, St. Thomas, Ontario. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas (631-0850) until Thursday and then to St. Anne’s Church where the Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angels’ Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to ahughson@execulink.com.
