Leo Curtis Spinney - 80, of Sunken Lake, Kings County, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 in Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Black River, Kings County, he was a son of the late Emery and Bessie (Schofield) Spinney. He was employed in road construction, having worked with Nova Construction and Aberdeen Construction and also worked his own farm. He enjoyed driving his 4-wheeler, working in the woods, watching wrestling on television and playing card games, especially solitaire. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Leora “Cookie” (Arenburg); sons, Paul (Sherry) and Jack (Rita) and daughter, Tina (Darren) Gertridge, all of Sunken Lake; daughter-in-law, Marie Spinney, Sunken Lake; sister, Sandra (Bernard Forsythe); brothers, Harland, Eldon (Shirley), Frank (Jean) and Blake (Clara); sisters-in-law, Mildred and Mary; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Velma; son, Gordon; sisters, Florence, Renna, Velda and Anne; brothers, Gerald and Franzell. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial took place in the Black River Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
