HENNESSEY, L. Anne – 90, Parkland Estates Retirement Residence, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday afternoon, August 26, 2012, at Parkland. Born July 14, 1922, in Antwerp, Belgium, she was a daughter of the late Frans and Maria (Van Den Bosch) Pickeur. Anne immigrated to Canada as a war bride in 1946. She was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Truro. She worked alongside her late husband, Joe, at Co-Operators Insurance, from where she retired in 1981. She enjoyed bowling on various senior’s leagues, playing cards and Bingo, going to dances with Joe and baking. Many will remember the wonderful cookies made by “Cookie Nanny” and “Oma”. Anne is survived by her son, Frank (Judy) Hennessey, Valley; grandchildren, Stephen Hennessey, Truro; Kimberley (Bob) Pinet, Gatineau, Quebec; Michael (Allison) Hennessey, Truro; great grandchildren, Noah and Lucas Hennessey, Evan and Helea Pinet, Ava and Ryan Hennessey; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Joseph “Joe” Hennessey; siblings, Lisa Pickeur-Heymans, Leona Pickeur-Broodhaers, Rosa Van den Bogaert, Louis Pickeur. Special thanks are extended to the wonderful staff at Parkland Estates and to her special friend and caregiver, Eleanor White. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Anne’s family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012, in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro. Reception will follow in Campbell Hall. Interment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 125 Robie Street, Truro. If so desired, donations in Anne’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Canadian Cancer Society are welcomed.
