It is with great sadness that the family of John (Jack) Murphy, 73 of Joggins announces his sudden passing on Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Joggins, Jack was the son of the late Harold and Florence (MacDonald) Murphy. Jack was raised by the late Basil and Hilda Murphy.
Jack is survived by his wife the former, Vila Gautreau; three sons, Chris (Wendy), Toronto, Kim (Jean), Wainwright AB, and Wade (Joan), Lower Maccan. Jack was one of the proudest papa’s you would ever meet. Survived by his grandchildren, Wade Jr., Amherst, Holly and Jeremy, Sackville, Shawn and Matthew, Wainwright, AB; step grandchildren, Barry and Kara Lynn, Barrie ON, and Chris, Springhill; great granddaughter, Kaycie Paige; step great grandchildren, Kayden and Aspen Lily; sisters, Lillian (Curtis) Faulkner, Truro, Betty Lalande, Saskatchewan, Mary (Leo), Toronto; brother, Bobby, Joggins; sister in laws, Irene (Fred) and Jean both of Joggins, Elsie, Betty Ann, Lenore and Bernice all of Amherst; brother in Law, Benny (Marilyn), Joey St. Peters both of Amherst; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by his sister, Margaret; brother in laws, Ernest, Henry, Sonny and Weldon; sister in laws, Alice and Clara; father and mother in law, Louie and Rita Gautreau.
In his younger years, he worked on carnivals and drove trucks and later joined IMP and retired after 42 years of service. Jack was a volunteer fireman for many years and enjoyed calling Bingo. He was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Joggins. Jack will be remembered as someone who loved his family unconditionally and was there for anyone who asked for his help. Jack was a very special and loving husband, dad, papa and friend. He will be truly missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8 p.m. all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 11 a.m. from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Joggins with Father Phil Thibodeau officiating. Reception will follow in the parish hall. Interment will take place following cremation at the Ragged Reef Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to the Joggins Fire Department or charity of your choice.
