STELLARTON – Donald Frederick Gerrior, 81 of Pleasant Street, Stellarton, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2012 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Ben and Mary (Pitts) Gerrior.
Donnie lived his life in Lourdes and Stellarton. During his working life he worked for Nova Scotia Power retiring after 22 years service. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Donnie was a member of the Pictou County Prostate Group. He was also a member of the UCT and the Heart and Stroke Group.
Surviving are his wife the former Virginia Smith; a daughter Karen (Kawal) Deogun, Ottawa; a son Kevin (Patty) Gerrior, Beavercreek, Ohio; two step-grandchildren, Emmett and Eric; brothers: Lester (Buddy), Ont.; Cyril (Jimmy), Stellarton; Paul (Mike), New Glasgow; Robert (Smokey), Stellarton; sisters: Jean, Ont.; Kaye, Sydney; Mary (Honey), Stellarton; Theresa, Lourdes.
Donnie was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.
By request Donnie’s remains have been donated to medical science.
The family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, 18 Acadia Ave., Stellarton.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes Church with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow in the Sister Catherine Steele Center.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Donnie may be made to the Lodge that Gives, Halifax or to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Forbes and Dr. Gerry Farrell and the nurses on the Palliative Care Unit for their care and support.
