Jackie Oliver, age 50 of Wilson Avenue, New Waterford, passed away on Tuesday, September 4th, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, Jackie was the son of Dorothy (MacKinnon) Oliver and the late John Angus Oliver.
Jackie was a very quiet man who loved animals; especially horses. He would often travel to Sydney, North Sydney and Inverness to watch the races. Jackie also enjoyed various sports, hockey, etc. But mostly, he loved his two children, daughter, Sherri (nee Burke), Mrs. Tyson Syrja, Ontario and his son, Justin Burke (Jessica), New Waterford.
Jackie is also survived by his sister, Maria, Mrs. Gordon Quigley, New Waterford; grandson, Rylan Syrja; his aunt, Mary J. MacKinnon; his uncle, Raymond Oliver and a special friend, Cindy McLean.
Jackie was predeceased by his father, John Angus.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley is Friday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard's Church followed by interment at St. Agnes Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family for a reception at St. Leonard's Hall on Convent Street.
As an expression of sympathy for Jackie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the S.P.C.A. or the Nova Scotia Liver Foundation.
