Martin Van den Broek
The death occurred peacefully at the Kings County Memorial Hospital, on Thursday, September 6, 2012, of Martin Van den Broek of Cardigan, aged 91 years.
Son of the late Herman and Maria (Abels) Van den Broek of Holland. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Johanna (Annie) Nabuurs, and dear father of Mary (Eric) Grant, Pauline (Roger) Kelly, Martina (Lester) MacDonald, Herman (Margaret Kelly), Tony (Karen McCullough), Ansy (Eddy) Donahoe, Rinnie (Adrian) Bradley, George (Julie Condon), Juliana (David) Boyd and Crissy (Brent) Riley. Loving Grampie to 33 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Survived by brothers: Toon Van den Broek, Holland, and Wim (Toni) Van den Broek, New Zealand; in-laws, Harry (Maria) Nabuurs, Montague; Wilhelmine Nabuurs, Cardigan; Toon (Ad) Nabuurs, Gonny Nabuurs, Tinny Nabuurs, Holland.
Predeceased by his infant daughter, Wilhelmina; sisters, Maarta Van Bakel, Ontario; and Maria Van den Kroon, Mina Van den Broek, both of Holland; and his brothers, Piet, Bert, Jan, Cor and Jos Van den Broek, all of Holland.
Martin and Annie immigrated to Canada in 1955 and embraced Prince Edward Island as their home. They began farming and in 1960, he established Cardigan Feed Services Ltd with his brother-in-law Peter Nabuurs.
Resting at MacMillan Room at All Saints Roman Catholic Church in Cardigan, for visitation on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to be held on Monday, September 10, at 10 a.m. Interment in the parish cemetery.
If so desired, memorial contributions may be made in Martin's memory to the All Saints Parish Building Fund or the Kings County Memorial Hospital.
