TRENTON - William Thomson “Jock” Alexander, 90, Trenton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in the Northumberland Veterans Unit, Pictou.
Born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Alexander. During the Second World War, Jock served in the Royal Air Force as a radio operator in the Shetland Islands. While training to be a radio operator in Charlottetown, P.E.I. he met the love of his life, Mary, whom he married on February 24, 1944. After living in several locations, they settled in Trenton, where he was employed as the manager of the Trenton Airport and later as a security guard at Hawker-Siddeley. After retirement, he served many years as crossing guard “extraordinaire” on Duke Street, Trenton where he made many little friends. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Pictou and the former St. Augustine’s Church, Trenton where he sang in the choir for many years. Jock was ever the entertainer; singing, dancing and telling stories, especially at the Maritime Odd Fellows Home with his friends. He greatly enjoyed the fun times he had with the First United Church Time Out Group. He enjoyed fishing, gardening (mainly roses), and tinkering with his radio collection. He had a great love of animals, especially his Border collies. Jock’s greatest accomplishment was being a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed by those that loved him.
Surviving are daughters, Jane (Robert) MacMillan, New Glasgow and Judy (Sheldon) Dickie, Trenton; sons, Bill (Sharon), New Glasgow; Arthur (Peggy), Pictou Landing; Robin (Frances), Trenton; grandchildren, Rachelle (Ian), David, Dann (Cheryl), Sean, Joy (Jared), Barbie (Aaron), Rhonda, Brian, James (Samantha), Scott (Meghan), Daniel, Michael, Paul and Shawn; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Tyson, Zoey, Marcus, James, Joseph, Liam, Logan, Allison, Carter and Connor; sisters-in-law, Muriel, Joan and June; brothers-in-law, Peter (Theresa) and Keir (Louise); many nieces and nephews; former daughter-in-law, Mary Tye; special friends, Stephen MacDonald, Adam and Marsha Burden, Flo Jordan, Jessie Smith and Woody MacDonald.
