SISTER IDA MARIE GRENON

Passed on: September 10th, 2012

Sister Ida Marie Grenon, a Sister of Charity of St. Louis for 72 years, died at the Father Lacombe Care Centre in Calgary, September 10th, 2012 at the age of 92 years.

Sister Ida was born in Dumas, SK, completing her education as a boarder with the Sisters at St. Oliver’s School, Radville, and Notre Dame College, Wilcox, SK. In 1937, Ida began her life as a Sister of Charity of St. Louis in Levis, PQ, returning to Moose Jaw and Teacher’s College in 1940. Ida loved her teaching ministry which began in Radville and continued at St. Louis College Boys’ School in Moose Jaw until 1962. From 1962 – 1969, Ida became “vocation director” for the SCSL and personally contacted young women who expressed an interest in “joining” the Louies. With her outgoing personality and her faith in God’s love, many young women were attracted to the life of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis. After many years in leadership roles with the Sisters in Canada, Rome and the U.S.A, Sister Ida returned to Regina and Moose Jaw to begin her ministry with the sick and elderly in pastoral care until 2008 when she retired to Calgary. In the challenges that Ida encountered, Sister Ida has said “faith in God’s ever-abiding presence in me, around me; the conviction that all things are meant to fashion me into Christ’s likeness…. Faith gives meaning to all things….and God will see me through”.

Sister Ida will be lovingly remembered by the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis, her sister Irma (Carriere) and brother Oliver, her many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Ida was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Ida, her step-father, Henry Grenon and her brothers, Alfred & Albert.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 - 19th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to SOFIA House, Box 37125, Regina, SK, S4S 7K4.

In living memory of Sister Ida Grenon, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB Telephone: 1-800-661-1599
