Hazel Rintoul of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on September 7, 2012 at the age of 89 years. Hazel was born July 26, 1923 to Jacob and Mary Ann Fladager of Moose Jaw. She attended St. Agnes School and Oxford Collegiate. After graduation she worked at the Army & Navy Dept. Store. She met and married William James Rintoul in 1943 and they resided in Moose Jaw in the Rintoul family home. Many happy summers were spent with family and friends at the cottage at Sun Valley Beach. They were proud to belong to the Kinsmen and Kinettes Service Club, working to promote the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Band Festival; Kinsmen Minor Hockey, raise funds to build the Civic Centre, and promote Moose Jaw at many city conventions. In later years they attended Dad’s Army reunion in England and visited friends in the Bahamas, and relatives in California and Points West. Hazel and her husband were very active in St. Andrew’s United Church, belonging to the JCA’s and A.O.T.S, the U.C.W. and the Buttons & Bows square dance group. They loved to dance at Temple Gardens and listen to their collection of records from famous musicals. Hazel loved hobbies such as leather and copper tooling, ceramics, knitting, sewing, needlepoint, and decorating. She enjoyed working with Ev Wallace at Willow Dene Crafts. Hazel is predeceased by her husband, William James Rintoul, her mother and step-father Mary Ann and Percy Lindsay; brothers-in-law, Charlie (Betty), John (Bette), Fred (Dot), and Fred (Evelyn Whitehouse) Rintoul. She is survived by daughters Janet (Ed) Beler, and Nancy (Chris) Hale; son Rod (Allison) Rintoul; grandsons: Sean Hale, Paul and Brent Beler, Aaron Rintoul; granddaughter Shannon Chant and Kristin L’Heureux; sister Jo McCrea and her children, Susan and Paul (Nadine) and their families; and brother-in-law Lloyd (Jean) Rintoul. The family would like to thank the residents, management and staff of the Mulberry Estates Retirement Home for their help and consideration making Mom feel at home; the caring professionals of the Five Hills Health Region – Moose Jaw Union Hospital and Assiniboia Union Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Friday September 14, 2012 at 3:00 pm. The Reverend Deacon Arleen Champion will officiate. Memorialization will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. For those so wishing, memorial donations to St. Andrew’s United Church, or to a charity of choice, would be appreciated.
