FOXBROOK ROAD – Mack Donald Holmes, age 81 of Foxbrook Road, Pictou County, passed away September 14, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Coalburn, he was a son of the late Chester D. and Ida (MacDonald) Holmes.
Mack was a long-time resident of Riverton. He started driving a truck when he was old enough to get his license and formed his own trucking company in 1950, and incorporated into M.D. Holmes Trucking Ltd in 1980. He was an avid traveller and enjoyed the winters he spent in Florida along with his wife Laura and other members of his family. His pride, passion and love for trucks could be seen in his Western Stars, although he owned other names. He was a member of the Truckers Association. Mack will be sadly missed by his many family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Laura; children: Diane Marie (David) Cameron, Cole Harbour; Frances Ida (Jack) MacQuarrie, Lorne; Sheila Louise MacDonald, Wolfville; Chester Daniel (Frances), Riverton; Donald Mack (Thelma), Riverton; grandchildren: Jenny, Brad, Maggie, Amelia, Ethan, Alana, Blake, Trevor, Jamie, Shauna and Jason; great-grandchildren: Luke, Brandon, Kenzie, Ailish, Findley, Hayden, Mack and Laura; sister Evelyn Henderson, Coalburn; sister-in-law Gloria Holmes, Foxbrook; and he will be sadly missed by his furry friend Smokey.
He was predeceased by a brother George Holmes, sister Alice Rae, brother-in-law Wallace “Wally”.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
