Dirk Cornelius Geense
Geense, Dirk Cornelis – 95, Parkland Estates and formerly Lower Truro passed away September 17, 2012 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born and raised on a farm on the island of Texel in the Netherlands, he was a son of the late Paulus and Krijna (Dros) Geense. After high school and graduation from the Schagen Agricultural College, he became employed with the provincial Agricultural Extension Services which was a position he held for 11 years. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and was employed with the Netherlands Agricultural Attaché in Ottawa, Ont. for a year to assist in placing of Dutch immigrants in Canada. After having worked as a farm supervisor in Quebec he accepted a position with the N. S. Farm Loan Board from which he retired in 1982. He took a great interest in his woodlot and enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his son, Paul (Betty); grandsons, Steven and Robert. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years the former Catharina W. Koppen; brother, Frans. He was a member of the N.S. and Canadian Institute of Agrologists and an accredited member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada. He was an elder and choir member of the First United Church and a member of the Truro Golden K. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 19th at 2:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Private family interment in Robie Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation.
