With broken hearts and deep sadness we, the family, announce the sudden death of Arthur on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012.
Born in Baddeck, Nov. 28, 1956, he was the youngest son of the late Sadie and Harold McNeil.
Arthur loved life, meeting and talking with friends both old and new. He was a fun-loving and caring person with a permanent smile. He loved the water and boating was his passion. His latest pleasure was scuba diving and he took to that like a fish to water. In his earlier years he was very fond of snowmobiling.
Arthur was an avid volunteer for all community events some of which included Baddeck Regatta, The Polar Bear Swim, The Slow Poker Run, The Cabot Trail Relay Race and many fundraisers. He was a member of Bras d’Or Yacht Club, N.S. Yachting Assoc., St Mark’s Masonic Lodge, Baddeck Royal Canadian Legion and the Barnacles Diving Team. His first job was with Baddeck Marine. He then attended Sir Sanford Fleming College in Ontario where he completed his certification in small engines.
For a couple of years he lived in British Columbia working at marinas as well as for Mercury Marine in Vancouver. His love for Baddeck was so great that he returned home where he started to work with Mercury Marine where he continued to work for the rest of his all too short life.
Arthur’s happiest and proudest moments were when he married his best friend, Rosanne (MacLeod) in 1989 and the births of their two sons, Dennis Sullivan in 1991 and Donald Alexander in 1993. Arthur is also survived by sister, Norma (Bud) and brother, Gordon (Lila); brothers-in-law, John and Fraser ‘Fritz’. Also mourning Arthur’s death are nephews, Richard, Trevor, Jordan and Daniel. He will always be “Uncle Arthur” to them as well as nephews, Ryan, Tyler and niece, Amanda.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 21 from 2-8 p.m. at MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck. Funeral service will take places Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood United Church, Baddeck. A reception will follow at Bras d’Or Yacht Club from 12 to 2 p.m.
