It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Marguerite ‘Peggy’ (Gregor) Harrington, 88, of Plummer Avenue, New Waterford, on Sept. 24 at home with her loving family by her side.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Bertha Gregor.
In earlier years, Peggy was employed at the office in No. 12 colliery. She later went on to work as a front desk clerk at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital until her retirement. Peggy was a member of Calvin United Church and a lifetime member of the UCW. She was also actively involved with Ageing Gracefully. Peggy was an avid card player and enjoyed her afternoon coffee at Tim Hortons with ‘the girls’.
Surviving are daughters, Eileen (Alphonse Jr.) Nearing, Dominion, Bertha (Ernest) Kliza, New Waterford; son, John (Jane), New Campbellton, N.S.; sister, Eileen Durdle, New Waterford; grandchildren, Crystal, June, Heather, Anthony, Mark, Leanne, Kelly and J.W.; great-grandchildren, Barbara Jean, Joshua, Lucas, Katie, Hanna and Xander.
Besides her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her husband, William ‘Bill’ Harrington, sister, Joan Sharpe, brother, Jim Gregor and daughter, Barbara Jean.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, Sept. 26) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, with a luncheon to follow in Calvin Hall. Peggy will be taken to the church at noon on Thursday.
