It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our brother Harry Francis Whitty, 84, on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home. Harry resided on Purves Street, North Sydney, for 50 years, prior to moving to the guest home.
Born in Ingonish, Dec. 31, 1927, Harry was the son of the late John James and Marcella Anne (MacDonald) Whitty.
He moved to North Sydney in 1960 and was employed as a fisherman in his earlier years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
He is survived by his siblings, brothers, John Hector Whitty, North Sydney, Wallace Whitty, Ingonish, William (Sylvia) Whitty, Earle Whitty, both of North Sydney, Timothy (Darlene) Whitty, Groves Point, Bobby (Heather) Whitty, St. Catharines, Ont.; sisters, Kay Taillon, Oakville, Ont., and Greta Gilbert, North Sydney; also by many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Harry was predeceased by his brother, Russell and sister, Florence, brothers-in-law, Leo Powers, Dell Taillon and Philip Gilbert and sisters-in-law, Joan Whitty and Eva Whitty.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for Harry will be held at 10 a.m., Monday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
