Valma June Mercer (nee Dwyer)

January 23, 1942-September 27, 2012 – Passed peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit, Miller Centre surrounded by her family on September 27, 2012, age 70 years. June was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Lucy Dwyer, Lewisporte, N.L. June is survived by David, her loving husband of 45 years and her two adoring children Rozann (Brian) and Geoffrey (Christina). June was an extraordinary grandmother to Jack, William and Abigail on whom she had such a tremendous impact. She will be remembered as a very loving, resourceful and thoughtful sister to Gerald (Angie) Dwyer, Surrey, BC, Cynthia (Leo) Drodge, St. John’s, N.L., Eric Dwyer, McAdam, N.B., Gary (Diane) Dwyer, Clarenville, N.L., David Dwyer, St. John’s, Lloyd Dwyer, Brampton, ON. and Pamela (Lloyd) Winsor, Oakville, ON. June is also survived by many nieces and nephews who share great memories of relaxing visits and fun times. June graduated from the General Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. She worked for several years at the General, Halifax Infirmary, Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and the Carbonear General Hospital, then went on to become an outstanding community clinic nurse within her husband, David’s private practice in Holyrood. June will be remembered as a beautiful, fun and outstanding lady by all who knew her, teaching us all to laugh and be positive even in the most difficult of moments. To the staff of the Palliative Care Centre at the Miller Centre, your compassion and care was outstanding. Thank you all so very much. Special thanks to all those who came to visit, provided loving care, and share amazing stories during her last few weeks with us. It was so appreciated and such a tribute. Funeral Services will take place Sunday, September 30, 2012 (time to be announced) according to Jewish ritual. Interment to follow at the Jewish Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers donations in June’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Miller Centre or a charity of one’s choice.
