Elizabeth 'Betty' MacKinnon

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother/grandmother, sister, Betty MacKinnon of Sydney Forks on Sept. 27, 2012.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Margaret (MacDonald) MacNeil. Betty was employed with Woolco Sydney River for 25 years before retiring in 1986. She was a former member of the St. Mary's CWL, East Bay and a valued member of the Sydney Forks Seniors Assoc.
Her hobbies included gardening, knitting, crocheting, and baking (especially her tea biscuits loved by her grandchildren). She also enjoyed attending weekly 45 card games and listening to Donnie Campbell's music show on Sunday evenings.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Ed) Ryan, Antigonish and Karen Kerr, Sydney River; grandchildren, Molly, Daniel and Neal Ryan, Brittany and Shannon Kerr and Bradley Kerr (father to Brittany and Shannon). She is also survived by sisters, Florence Neville, Sydney; Theresa Kennedy, Massachusetts, Olga Knowles, Maryland and sisters-in-law, Jessie and Doris MacNeil.
She was predeceased by her husband, George; siblings, Mary, Jessie (Morrison), Rita (MacLennan), Ron, Michael, John and Michael Joseph.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, with Rev. Francis Abbass officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care of C.B. County, VON Sydney Chapter, An Cala Unit Cape Breton Regional Hospital or charity of one’s choice.
