Linda Stiles
It is with profound sadness that the family of Linda Adele Stiles age 64, announce her passing on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Jessie (Stainthorpe) Gould.
Linda was involved in many volunteer organizations fighting for the rights of the disabled and was president of the LEO Nova Scotia for 5 years. She was also instrumental in having the Government Building in Halifax being made wheelchair accessable.
Linda enjoyed ceramics and had her own ceramic shop when she lived in Amherst.
She loved to play cards, bingo and made crafts for family and friends and had a special interest in her great granddaughter Sadie who has the same challenges she has to overcome.
Linda won awards for Partnerships for Access Awareness Nova Scotia, the Mel Hebb Hourglass Action Award in 2000 and was Volunteer of the Year for Cumberland County and Nova Scotia.
Recently she was involved in forming the new Community Centre in Maccan.
She will be sadly missed by her husband David of 44 years, daughter Vicky Gould (Mark) of Windsor, ON, sons Michael Stiles (Angela) of Springhill and David Stiles (Wendy) of Toronto, ON, 6 grandchildren Samantha, Crystal, Kayla, Mitchell, Kristian and Noah; seven great grandchildren Alexandrea, Ashton, Aaliyah, Mercedes "Sadie", Landon, Kelvin and Ivan.
Linda is also survived by her sister Mary (Ernie) Dunlop of West Amherst, two nephews Billy and Bruce and one niece Ann.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 7-9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, NS.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Bill Crawford officiating.
Memorial donations in Linda's memory may be made to the Maccan Community Centre or the charity of your choice.
