It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Florence Aitkens on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Solomon and Annie (Cousins) Jewer.
Florence is survived by her two sons, Michael and Curtis; two precious grandchildren, Kristin and Aiden; and their mother, Darlene. She is also survived by her siblings, Rita Muise, Doris Cousins, Lillian Piercey, Rose Gillis Lewis, Olive Brewer, Tom, Ernie, Roy, Jim; brother-in-law, Roger (June) Aitkens; mother-in-law, Sadie Aitkens; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wayne, sisters, Lottie, Violet, brothers, Henry and Solomon, two siblings in infancy.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 5-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with captains Kent and Dena Hepditch officiating. Interment to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
