SEARS, Avery R. – 88, of Yarmouth, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born January 11, 1924 in Port Maitland, he was the only son of the late Carrie (Churchill) and Wilfred Sears of Port Maitland. Avery was a former employee of Maritime Tel and Tel in Yarmouth and Digby, retiring after 35 years of service. He was also a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. While residing in Port Maitland after his retirement, he was a member of Bayview Baptist Church. Avery was an avid outdoorsman in his younger days and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and winters in Florida. He was a quiet unassuming man and will be sadly missed by his family. He is survived by loving wife, Rita (Colgan) of Yarmouth; daughters, Karen (Leo) Woods and Judy Sears; grandchildren, Chris, Erica, Andrea and John; as well as six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nina Wetmore. Special heartfelt thanks to Linda and Bob Comeau of New Beginnings Seniors Residence and their staff for their deep care and compassion to Avery over the past several years; it was truly his second home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Sunday, October 7 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel where funeral service was held Monday, October 8 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Richard Fowler officiating. Interment followed in Port Maitland Beaver River Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations in Avery’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
