Mary Ethel (MacWilliam) Riley, age 83 of Stellarton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family.
Born in New Glasgow on May 30, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Eunice (Mason) MacWilliam.
Mary was a proud graduate of the class of 46 of Stellarton High and was retired from Pictou County Transit Authority. She was an exceptional friend, seamstress and enjoyed making quilts for her children and grandchildren.
Survived by her daughters Jeannette (Mel) Head, Calgary; Dorothy (William) Hillier, Enfield; Beth (Jimmie) MacLean, Thorburn; Vicki (Richard) Pettipas, Summerside; Joan (Michael) Cooley, Thorburn; and sons Hugh (Sally), Peterborough and Ian (Heather), Calgary; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Jeanette Bezanson and Jeannie (Ronald) MacKenzie, brother Hugh (Phyllis) and sisters-in-law: Jessie MacWilliam, Phyllis Adamson and Janet Dunbar, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Richard Parker, brother Bill, sister-in-law Kathleen Murphy and brother-in-law Bernie Bezanson.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, at the First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating.
Family flowers only, donations may be made in her memory to First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or any charity of your choice.
