PITMAN, Emily Maud – 85, of Carleton, Yarmouth Co., passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Born January 11, 1927 in Richfield, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Bethune) Sweeney. Emily was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was a homemaker for most of her life and always took care of her family whether it be cooking meals or knitting items such as socks and mittens. She was known for her love of cooking and made the best bread, donuts, and cold salad. She had a passion for cribbage and playing card games. She is survived by daughter, Doreen (Bill) Rogers and their children William, Matthew and Michael; son, Royden (Renee) Pitman and their children Jeffery, Sheila, Troy, stepchildren Megan and Brandon; son, Dale (Heather) Pitman and their children Vanessa, Monica, Marley and Kaleigh; son, Darrell and his children Jena, Adam and Erin; son, David (Ruby) and their children Joel, Jeremy and Alex, stepdaughter Amber Horton; sisters in Ontario, Myrtle (Wallace) Tidd and Ida Moulaison; twenty one great grandchildren and two more on the way. She is also survived by special niece and almost daughter Suzanne Surette and her wonderful caregiver and friend Fern Nickerson, many nieces & nephews. Besides her parents she is predeceased by loving husband, Harold Pitman; sisters, Gertrude Hurlburt, Olive Thibodeau, Audrey Surette, Anna Challoner and Verna Wood. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Thursday, October 11 from 1-2 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel where funeral service followed at 2 p.m., Rev. Don Moses officiated. Interment followed in Carleton Cemetery.
