It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of John MacDonald, 68, of Little Bras d'Or, on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines on June 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Bernie and Rita (MacLean) MacDonald, and biological father, Alec Bonar.
John was an active member of the Army Navy Airforce Veteran's Unit, #381, Bras d'Or for 26 years, serving as Sergeant-at-Arms for 25 years. He worked for the Dept. of Transportation for 35 years.
John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lorraine (Osmond); his children, Caroline (Scott Webster), Johnnie (Sarah), Sheldon (Doris), and Marlene (Keltie Farrell) and his grandchildren, Sheldon, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Todd and Matthew. Also left to mourn are his brothers, Brian, Clarence, Rob, Eric and Lenny; sisters, Vangie and Laura; special aunts, Jess and Chubbs and uncle and friend, George.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Ron; sisters, Carolyn and Marlene and father and mother-in-law, George and Caroline Osmond.
Visitation for John MacDonald will take place in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, at 11 a.m., in Trinity Anglican Church, with Rev. Stacey Lemoine officiating. The burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
