It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Margaret Calderwood (MacKay) Galpin on Oct. 13, 2012. She died peacefully after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, N.S., she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah MacKay. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Margaret was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Glace Bay Nursing in 1953 and was an avid member of Seaview Golf and Curling Club for 22 years.
Margaret was a loving and devoted mother, her sparkling eyes and hearty laugh would always put a smile on your face. She enjoyed fishing and walking the shorelines. She looked forward to her nights out with her bingo friends. She loved to dance and listening to music, and had a deep devotion to animals especially dogs.
Margaret is survived by her six children, sons, Derek ( Margaret-Ann), Moncton, Stuart (Deborah), Sydney Mines, Jay, Halifax; and daughters, Janis (Robert), Sydney Mines, Gina Lemoine, Halifax, and Jill (Gerry) Payne, Sydney. Also surviving are eight grandchildren.
Besides her parents Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Aubrey, her brother, Craig MacKay and grandson, Graham Galpin.
At the request of the family, there will be no visitation. A private memorial graveside service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney , for immediate family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the palliative care unit at the Northside General Hospital.
