With great sadness, we announce the passing after a lengthy illness of Sandor (Alex) Kovacs on October 10, 2012.

Alex was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1931 and left during the uprising in 1956. He arrived in Prince Rupert where he worked for several years.

On a vacation trip he met the love of his life, Sara. They married in 1965 and moved to Ashcroft where Alex was employed at Bethlehem Copper. In 1967 Sara and Alex went to Tasu, B.C., where, with the exception of two years spent in Mexico, they lived until 1979. Their daughter Ileanna was born in 1974.

Alex, Sara and Ileanna moved to Nanaimo and lived there until they came to Kamloops in 1985. Alex worked at Afton Mine until his retirement in 1996 with the exception of two years spent at Tumbler Ridge. Alex and Sara moved to Laurel Place in Surrey in 2007.

Alex was predeceased by his parents as well as two brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife Sara, daughter Ileanna, granddaughter Kylie and grandson Corey.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Kingdom Hall at 11955 - 90th Avenue, Surrey at 1:30 p.m. on October 20th, 2012.
