Mary “Louise” Wood – 89, of Kentville, Kings County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in New Harbour, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Jane (Thorne) Butt. She graduated from the Newfoundland School of Nursing and nursed in Burgeo, Markland and St. John’s, Newfoundland, later moving to Kentville, where she worked at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, where she served on the Evening Guild and taught Sunday School for many years. Louise was a long-time member of St. Eulalie Rebekah Lodge No. 27, Kentville, where she served in all offices and was a Past Nobel Grand, Past District Deputy President and was currently serving her second term as the District Deputy President. She was a member and Past President of the L.A.P.M. in both Kentville and Halifax. She was also a member of the Kentville New Horizons Seniors. She is survived by three sons, Donald (Yvonne), Elmsdale; Darrell, Victoria, British Columbia and Ralph, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Faye Connors, Richmond, British Columbia; Dr. Nancy Louise Wood, Barrie, Ontario and Marilyn (Norman) Penney, Cole Harbour; seven grandchildren, Donald (Soleil) Wood, Adam (Alison) Wood, Nadine (Creighton) Barrett, Mark (Elizabeth) Penney, Eric Penney, Jason Connors and Michelle Connors; four great grandchildren, Brycen and Xavier Penney, Grayson and Samuel Wood. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald F. Wood and her step mother, Deliah (Crocker) Butt. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 with a St. Eulalie Rebekah Lodge service held at 7:00 p.m. both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, The Reverend Cathy Pharo officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, The Anglican Parish of St. James. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Garden of Rest Cemetery fund or to a charity of your choice.
