HANSEN, BETTY LOU - Betty Lou Victoria Hansen died peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the DECH, surrounded by family, Tuesday, October 16th, 2012. Betty, youngest of eight, was the beloved daughter of Margaret (McGowan) and Asbjorn Hansen, both deceased. Betty was predeceased by sisters Lillian (MacPherson) and Margaret (Hatheway). Surviving Betty is her sister Pauline (Parks) and brothers Asbjorn (Marilyn) and Ralph (Mary). Betty is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children with happy memories and sad hearts. Betty leaves behind a loving friend with heavy heart in Norway, Major General Hamang Age. Betty was a strong and independent woman who forged a career in the travel industry in Miramichi and Fredericton. She traveled the world having adventures, meeting fascinating people and bringing home extraordinary souvenirs and stories. She had an extremely warm and loving heart. There was no animal turned away from her door. Each cat she had was a rescued stray and she was generous both with her heart and her purse when it came to those who could not speak for themselves. She often said that to judge a person you had only to look at the way they treated the animals around them.
A small, family graveside service will be held in Miramichi, October 22nd, when Betty will be interred beside her beloved parents in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local CARMA or S.P.C.A. would be a kind way to honour Betty’s memory.
