PRIESTVILLE – George Ronald “Ron” Bonvie, 70, Priestville, passed away Friday, October 19, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Sarah Margaret (Bowden) Bonvie, Valley View Villa, Riverton and the late George Hubert Bonvie.
Ron was employed with the former Trenton Works for 42 years, retiring in 2007. He was a member of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow. He had been a member of the former Men’s Brotherhood and choir, travelling extensively throughout the Maritimes performing in various venues. Ron was an avid hunter and fisherman. He greatly enjoyed listening to Country Music, watching wrestling, the six o’clock news and attending the Weeks Crushers hockey games. Ron’s daily routine involved meeting with his friends at Sobey’s, Aberdeen Mall, for coffee and conversation. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who especially enjoyed the childhood antics of his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his mother, Sarah are his wife of 41 years, Beverley “Debbie” (Paris); daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Bonvie, Dartmouth; Glenn (Amanda) Bonvie, New Glasgow; grandson, Brodie and granddaughter, Brooke; sister, Esther (Doug) Arnold, Houston, B.C.; Preston Bonvie, Westville; Martin Bonvie, New Glasgow; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his father, George, he was predeceased by sisters, Barbara Weinburg and Jessie Bonvie; brother, Robert Bonvie.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Second United Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Peter J. Paris officiating. Interment will be in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow.
Donations may be made in Ron’s memory to Second United Baptist Church or Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment.
