Joseph Kennedy, 94, of Parkland Estates, Sydney, formerly of Louisbourg passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
He was the son of the late Richard and Catherine (Landry) Kennedy.
Prior to his retirement, he was production manager for seven years with Gortons of Gloucester and 25 years with National Sea Products, Louisbourg. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Joe is survived by his four sons, Bernard (Judy), Barry (Debbie), both of Sydney, Robert (Peggy), Guelph, Ont., and Donald, Edmonton, Alta.; two daughters, Anne (Arthur) Hutt, Albert Bridge, and Rose (David) Wadden, Sydney; stepdaughter, Lucy (John) Eaves, Watertown, Mass.; his 10 grandchildren, Darren, Terence, Cindy (Gary), Trevor (Cheryl), Lindsay, Shannon (Dan), Shawn (Jenna), Stephanie (Derek), Krystin and Kellen; eight great-grandchildren, Christian, Kyle, Cameron, Ava, A.J., Caitlin, Brayden and Carter.
Joe was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Connington), his second wife, Phyllis (Hussey), grandson, Robbie Kennedy, Guelph, Ont., sister, Mary (Sandy) Matheson, six brothers, James, Wallace, Wilfred, Daniel, Douglas, Howard, and two sisters in infancy.
Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Immaculate Heart Church, Mira Road, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment to follow in Stella Maris Church Cemetery, Louisbourg.
