CYR, Emma – June 24, 1918 – October 21, 2012. Emma was born to John and Anna Mayer in St. Boswells, SK, one of eleven children. She was predeceased by: husband Leo P. Cyr; son: Leo Victor Cyr (Joe Jr); grandson: Paul Jean Petersen; sisters: Minnie (Louie), Christina (Jack), Ida (Carl), Millie (August), Elsie (Frank), Clara (Phil), brothers: Curtis (Florence), Ernie (Hilda), Roy(Lee). She is survived by: daughter Candis (Ray) Petersen granddaughter: Angela Petersen; brother Vic (Fran) Meyers; as well as nieces and nephews. Emma married Leo Cyr in Gravelbourg, SK on February 22, 1940. They lived on the Cyr family farm for awhile, then moved to Gravelbourg where Leo operated CN cartage and dray line, from there he worked for the Department of Highways, and Emma worked as a cook for highway crews. In 1952, they moved to Shaunavon with the Department of Highways. Emma did many loads of white shirts for the local lawyer Albert Leia. Through friends she became cook at the local restaurant owned by the Rostad’s. She was very active in the Lutheran Church of Shaunavon, teaching sunday school and the Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to play cards and enjoyed playing bridge at their weekly get together. In 1963, they moved to Swift Current again with Leo’s work. For awhile she worked at Hunter’s restaurant (which is now Smitty’s) and on to cooking at the Palliser as dietary cook until her retirement. They had a great group of friends and often on the weekend you would see them at the Big I. During this time also they had a small cabin at Lac Pelletier where many memories and friends were also made. After Leo passed away in 1993, Emma moved to Cypress Hills Estates. There also she had a small group of friends who played cards 2 – 3 times a week and then out for supper, oh I forgot the Saturday afternoon meat draw at the Legion was a standing tradition. In 2007, Emma fell and broke her hip which slowed her down quite a bit, but up to that point you would think she was in her 60’s not 80’s. She then went to Riverview Estates for assisted living, it wasn’t her favourite place but her friend Alma Jackson certainly helped her pass the time. In 2009, again she fell and was hospitalized for several weeks and it was determined that she should be placed in a care home. At the time the only available home was in Eastend SK, where she was taken care of by the best and friendliest staff. The funeral service was held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Parkside Memorial Funeral Chapel. The interment was held at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, SK.
