After an extremely brave battle with his sickness, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 25th, 2012. He is predeceased by his mother Bridget Nash. Leaving to mourn and cherish the loving memories are his wife, true love, soul mate, best friend, business partner, and simply, his life, Rosalind Downey; his two beloved children, Blair Downey, son, and Erin Downey, daughter; his adored grandchildren: Arianna O’Connell, Makena Downey and Jude Downey, “Oh how Poppy loved you all’. Also, leaving to mourn, sisters-in-law: Mary Nash, Frances English, Lillian Nash, Virginia Nash; brothers-in-law: Eric Nash (whom he loved to torment), Arthur Nash, Glenn Nash and Leonard English; his daughter-in-law, Maja Downey and Mitchell O’Connell; his nephews and nieces: Robin, Michael, Colin, Dana, Ryan, Christopher, Brandon, Gillian, Colleen and Arthur; his cousins: Yvonne, Marley, Ricky and Darryl; his loving neighbours: Cynthia and Daphne; and countless other family members and friends. The family would like to send a very heartfelt thank you to Dr. Ahmad of the Dr. H. Bliss Cancer Centre, for his honesty and words of comfort; to the Mt. Pearl Medical Clinic, especially Lisa and Ann Marie and to Dr. Essaji, who was not only his caregiver, but who Gary came to consider a friend and confidant, and who Gary found great comfort throughout his ordeal. To all our loved ones who have gone before Gary we trust that when he walked over the bridge and entered through the gates of heaven, you were there with arms wide open. Take care of him until the day we shall all be together again. Love is too small of a word to describe the way we feel about our Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. You will be missed but never forgotten. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, October 29th, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa’s Church.
