Charlie MacQueen died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at home.
He was born in 1924 in Donkin, N.S. to the late Charles and Dolly (Smith) MacQueen. Chas worked for 46 years for Devco.
He spent most of his career working in the Central Shops, Glace Bay-Electrical Department.
Chas was a loyal member of the mechanics local UMWA, holding several offices in that local.
He was a member of Knox United Church and was involved in the boy scout movement. Charlie was a member of IOOF-Past Grand, Aberdeen Lodge #68. He was one of the original coaches of the Glace Bay Community Hockey Clinic. He was also a member of Big Brothers.
Chas was a man of humble beginnings, who was always thankful for his many blessings and continually shared his good fortune with those around him.
Charlie is survived by his only son, Donald (Suzanne); grandsons, Robert (Megan) and Ian who were the center of his world.
He is also survived by a sister, Catherine Jenkins (Dartmouth); sisters-in-law, Tillie MacQueen, Donkin and Jennie Rowntree, Ontario.
He will be missed by many special nieces and nephews, especially his guardian angel Charlotte MacRury. He will also be missed by his extended family and many dear friends.
Charlie was predeceased by his wife of nearly 40 years, Jean (Matheson) MacQueen in 1992; brothers, Fraser and Hughie; sisters, Rachael MacRury, Anne Selleck, Sara O'Loughlin and Barbara Westin.
Visitation for the late Mr. MacQueen will be held Thursday, Nov.1, 2012, at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Patten at 2 p.m., Rev. John Finlayson officiating. Reception to follow. Family committal to be held at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
Suggested memorials may be made to Palliative Care or the Red Cross.
