WEEDON, Mary Marjorie, age 91, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at the Cypress Regional Hospital. Marjorie was born to Henry and Mary Rimmer on January 17, 1921, the middle child of 3. The year that Marj was born, the family built and moved into their new house on the home quarter. Upon graduation from Cabri School, she attended Business school and worked as a secretary for a couple of years. She then proceeded on to get her Nursing Diploma from St. Paul’s in Saskatoon. In 1943, Marj married Robert Braaten and they had two sons, Gary and Ronnie. Marj nursed in Cabri for many years. In 1965, she moved to Calgary to continue her career. On October 25, 1968, Marj married Bob Weedon. They then returned to the Cabri area in 1970, where they farmed until 1983. Upon their retirement, they moved to Kelowna, BC until 1998, when they returned to the Prairies to reside in Swift Current. Marj’s most treasured moments were those spent with family and friends; above all else, she loved her family and was proud of each and every one of them. Marj had a great zest for life. She loved entertaining, playing bridge, curling and being active within the community. She was a long time member of Eastern Star. Many hours were spent crocheting, playing the piano, or simply walking through the coulee, by the family farm, looking for crocuses. Over the years she spent countless summers at Clearwater Lake. In the later years, Marj and Bob joined a camping club in Kelowna and began traveling throughout BC and the US in their RV. Traveling was on of their many loves of life…over the years Marj and Bob traveled the world. Of all the places they have seen and been, Clearwater Lake was her destination of choice. She always said that it was her “little piece of heaven”. Marj was an amazing woman. Throughout the years, her determination and strength attributed to her fine character. She appreciated every day for what it was and when things got tough…she would simply say “this to shall pass”. Marj is predeceased by her parents; son, Ronnie Braaten; husband, Bob Weedon; stepdaughter, Gail (Terry) Abraham; son-in-law, Walter Forrest; brother, Harry (Arlene) Rimmer; and by a brother-in-law, Jack (Marion) Weedon. She is survived by her son, Gary (Sharon) Braaten; stepdaughters, Teri Forrest, Heather Archer; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret (Ken) Knox; sister-in-law, Mary Weedon; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Palliser Care Center for the wonderful care that Marj received over the past 3 years. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 2:00 pm from the Cabri United Church, Cabri, SK with Pastor Marie Barr officiating. The pianist for the service was Lexie Culham. “Count Your Blessings”, “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace” and “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You”, were sung by the congregation led by the Cabri United Church Choir. Special music was provided by Fern Bang singing “My Best to You”. The ushers in the church were, Glen Lindstrom and Allen Fahselt. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Cabri Cemetery. In memory of Marj Weedon, donations made to the Cabri Cemetery Fund, Cabri United Church or the Charity of the Donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
