Yick Chi (Henry) Chan

CHAN, YICK CHI (HENRY) - The family of Yick Chi (Henry) Chan, regretfully announces the passing of their husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, on November 4, 2012 in Saint John. Henry was the 8th child in a family of 11, born in China November 1, 1936; there too he married the love of his life Shuk Ping (Anna) on March 10, 1974. The two immigrated to Canada in 1976 where they settled on the north side of Fredericton and opened “Henry Chan Grocery”. In 1977 they welcomed their only child Vivian Wai Mun, and after 18 years of serving in their community they retired in 1994. Their retirement was quiet and gave them time to enjoy family and friends. Henry loved to listen to Chinese classical music and a fond passion was to recite Chinese poetry to Anna. Henry is survived by his wife of 38 years Anna, his daughter Vivian Bouchard and her husband Russell Bouchard of Saint John, two beautiful grandchildren that helped him learn to live young again, Candice and Anson Bouchard also of Saint John. Several sisters also survive him in China. In March of this year Henry was diagnosed with colon cancer and moved to the Saint John Hospice to be close to his family. The family would like to thank the Saint John Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Henry for the short time he was there.
Visitation will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Tuesday November 6th 2012 from 7 to 9 PM only. At the family’s request, there will be no funeral service. Donations would be appreciated for Bobby’s Hospice and Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital palliative care unit. www.bishopsfuneralhome.com
