Armie was born in New Waterford on Jan. 3, 1915, to the late J.J. Chiasson and Elizabeth (Deveaux) Chiasson.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Leona (Cormier) Chiasson; his children, Lester (Eunice) Chiasson, South Bar, Elaine (Bob) Tupper, Edmonton, Adele (Wayne) Johnston, Saint John, Marcel (Anne) Chiasson, Ottawa; his sisters, Adelaide (Warren-deceased) Friedrich, Velma (Jean-Pierre-deceased) Perisse, Elmire (Ronnie) Dingwall; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Armie worked in New Waterford area coal mines for 25 years, finishing as safety inspector of several mines in 1959. Subsequently, he worked as an accountant in Pasadena, Calif., as comptroller for the New Waterford hospital, and as an auditor and district manager for Customs and Excise Canada in Amherst, N.S., and Moncton, N.B.
After retirement Armie and Leona spent over 20 winters in Clearwater, Fla., as well as enjoying summers on the Mira in Cape Breton, Jackson's Point in Amherst, N.S. and in Shediac, N.B.
Armie taught by example, giving his family all he had in his work and in showing genuine interest in their lives to ensure their stability and success. He was happiest when he could assist his family in construction projects, showing enthusiasm and energy that most often surpassed that of those being assisted. He was an accomplished musician, playing the Hawaiian guitar and mandolin at countless family celebrations and at small concerts in Moncton, Cape Breton and Florida over the years. It was through music Armie met Leona, playing at a kitchen party in Grand Etang, Cape Breton in 1935.
Armie completed his early education at St. Anne's College at Church Point, N.S. Through later study he earned designations as a mine manager and inspector. Armie spent several years teaching mathematics at New Waterford’s Night School to assist fellow miners and their families to get ahead in life. He was awarded his professional designation as a registered industrial accountant (RIA -CMA) in 1960-61.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church followed by interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family for a reception in St. Leonard's hall on Convent Street.
As an expression of sympathy for Armie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
