Alonzo Ewen ‘Lonnie’ Clements, 74, of Glace Bay, formerly of Wadden’s Cove, died Nov. 7, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Wadden’s Cove, he was the son of Charles and Lillian (Kennedy) Clements.
He was employed at Island Distributors and S. Karrel Heating.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church and a founding member of AFTEC and Brass Tack Industries. With Kay Cuzner they initiated special needs classes in Glace Bay. He was a loving family man and liked spending time in Mira and farming.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia ‘Sis’ (Strickland); children, Noel (Karen), Glace Bay, Shawn, Glace Bay, Scott (Ann), New Waterford, Maureen Clements, Peter McRury, Nancy Strong (Otto); sister, Arlene (Dennis) MacKeigan; grandchildren, Jeffery, ‘Poppy’s man, Nadine, Poppy’s princess, Jennifer, Poppy’s little girl; numerous nieces and nephews that he held close to heart; and canine companion, J.J.
He was predeceased by daughter, Vera Anne, brothers, Wayne, Ellsworth, Delbert, Marvin and Freeman, John and Vera in infancy.
A memorial service will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. The family will gather for one hour before the service at the church. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
