Autumn’s Other Shade
The trees are dressed in crimson
Leaves are dipped in shades of gold
Nature’s paintbrush at its finest
Oh, the sight the eyes behold.
But then the leaves they fade and wither,
And seek their final resting place
And as they begin their flutter downward
There are hearts that quicken in their pace.
Deeper than the autumn beauty
Lies a painful darker shade
Of memories our hearts hold forever
So unlike leaves so quick to fade.
Time goes by and we live coping
Accepting things we know must be
We tuck away those special memories
In sad hearts of you and me.
But as autumn season in its splendour
Takes its turn, as we well know
It will unleash the hurt and longing
That broke our hearts so long ago
Memories come and bring the sadness
Fresh tears fall just like the rain
But we remember God’s sweet promise
Spring is sure to come again.
Just like springtime heals the autumn
The hands of time help hurting fade
But those of us who weep in autumn
Know too well, its other shade.
