It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Mary Christina Saunders, 80 of 312 High Street, Sydney, after a lengthy illness, on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Mary Tina (Campbell) Walker.
She was a member of St. Joseph's parish, Sydney. She worked for many years at MT&T as a telephone operator and at the General Office and also at the CB. Hospital. Mary was dedicated to her many charitable organizations such as the Red Cross, Canadian Heart & Stroke, SPCA and Loaves & Fishes. Her kind heart was exceptional. She cherished her family and granddaughters more than anything. She loved to skate and play hockey, bowl, painting and playing the piano. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and sister-in-law, she is survived by her husband Carl; sons Larry, Ft McMurray, Doug, Sydney, Andy (Jennifer), Grand Bend, ON and three granddaughters Rachel, Erin and Chloe. She is also survived by two nephews Gary and Davey and their families, by her cousins Bruce and Gertie Gallagher, Mrs. Betty House and her daughter Cathy and Danny and Dawn Young.
She was predeceased by her sibling Margie (late Reid) MacPherson.
Visitation for Mrs. Saunders will be held on Monday, November 12 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
