NEW GLASGOW – Donald Stanley Duncan, age 82 of Washington Street, New Glasgow, passed away on Monday, November 12th, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Fredericton, NB, he was a son of the late J. Preston and Margaret (Pond) Duncan.
Don was a resident of New Glasgow for the past 30 years. He was a retired employee of Nova Scotia Power and a member of the N.S.G.R.E.U. Don was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church where he was a former Warden and Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was also a member of the Pictou County Council of Churches. He was a member of several Masonic Lodges and was Past Master of Euclid Masonic Lodge. Don was also a member of Century Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #10.
Surviving are his wife the former Frances (Oram); sons, Ian (Darlene) Duncan, Halifax; Gregory (Kim) Duncan, Halifax; daughter Lynn (Hank) Sheppard, St. John, NB; grandchildren: Ryan Duncan, Hannah and Danielle Duncan, Sandi and Melissa Morrell; great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Kaileigh and Kaia; many nieces and nephews; a brother Rev. Joseph (Anne) Duncan, Kentucky.
Don was predeceased by brothers Percy and James; sisters: Evelyn, Glenna and Roma.
The family will receive visitors from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. George’s Anglican Church with Rev. Mark Pretty officiating, assisted by Rev. Bill White. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Don may be made to St. George’s Anglican Church, the Estarl Fund of the Eastern Star or to a charity of one’s choice.
The Masonic Lodge will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home to conduct their tribute service.
The Order of the Eastern Star Lodge will meet at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home to conduct their tribute service.
