With sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother Kathleen McGowan, 84, a resident of Valleyview Nursing Home in Riverton, N.S. and former resident of North Sydney.
Kathleen passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow.
Born in Corner Brook, N.L., she was the daughter of the late Ronald Victor and Annie M. (Kehoe) Moore.
Kay was involved with the ladies auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 19, North Sydney, and along with her late husband Stan, volunteered with the bingo games and they enjoyed the dart and bowling leagues.
Kathleen was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her son, Patrick (Patricia) McGowan, Calgary; and daughter, Diane (Larry) Bennett, Hudson, Mass.; grandchildren, Kelly and Tim McGowan, Melissa (Matthew) Tucker and Brent (Elizabeth) Bennett; great-grandchildren, Emily, Keegan and Alison Tucker and Ethan and Aidan Bennett. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Leonard Doucette, North Sydney; a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley P. McGowan in 2005 and brothers, William, Michael and Arthur Moore, sisters, Elizabeth Doucette, Marjorie Joudry and Ruby McCarthy.
Visitation for Kathleen will be held from 9-11 a.m., Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Roy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
