William “Bill” Raymond Porter, age 88, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at the Windsor Elms Village, located on the former Porter family farm, Falmouth. Born on June 11, 1924, in Hantsport, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Leslie H. and L. Elizabeth “Bib” (Dickson) Porter. He was a long-time Falmouth farmer, owner and operator of William R. Porter Greenhouses, where he grew early transplants of tomatoes, cukes and cut flowers. He loved to tinker and could fix just about anything, from watches to lawn mowers, and he was a self-taught welder. He is survived by his brother, Irvin (Thelma) Porter, Falmouth; sisters-in-law, Jean Porter, Halifax; Susanne Porter, Toronto, Ontario; special niece, Lorraine Porter, Falmouth and numerous other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Leslie H. and L. Elizabeth “Bib” (Dickson) Porter; he was predeceased by brothers, Charles D. Porter; Leslie H. Porter; Montson E. Porter and John C. Porter. Visitation was 7 – 9 p.m. Friday, November 16, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012, in Lindsay`s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Debra Mosher officiating. Interment was in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth, followed by a reception at the Lindsay Family Reception Centre, 184 King Street. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Bill were requested to be made to the Chaplaincy Fund at the Windsor Elms Village or a charity of one’s choice.
